Volunteer Internships
We have 3-6 month ongoing internships for social workers, investigators, teachers, lawyers and others desiring to gain more experience in international human rights advocacy. These positions offer an incredible opportunity to work on the frontlines of justice in the world's largest democracy and thus serve for dignified human life and contribute peace and progress in the society.
If you are a young graduate and believe in exploring the new Territories to become a trailblazer, who charts his own path, enjoys his sense of independence & productivity and believes his sense of enthusiasm and self-motivation to take everyone along, then Team Nishan is the place for you to gain first-hand practical experience by working on the front lines of justice in the world's largest electoral democracy. You will be putting to test all your creativity and organizing abilities and see the results yourself for being part of a real-life campaigning, where history is in the making for India's governance institutions’ transition to democratization through field research and policy analysis with active participation of vigilant citizen groups. You will be part of the activities that are dedicated to empowerment and mobilization of masses for performance oriented governance institutions in India.
Project Assistant-Police Reforms -will be part of the core team assisting the Director in strategizing the campaign and activities to mobilize public opinion for democratization of police in the Indian states. You will be required to acquaint yourself with the campaign and then design questionnaires for public/police consultations, surveys and interviews of police officers, victims of police apathy and corruption and community leaders. Analyze data and write reports to the leaders in position of power to introduce policy changes. You will be part of the team to address bar associations, political leaders, community leaders on the issue of democratization of police in Indian states. In addition to your own duties of the project assistant for police reforms campaign you will also be participating in all the organizational activities that may also include fundraising.
Campaign Assistant-Police Reforms- will be part of the core team assisting the Director in execution of the campaign and activities to mobilise public opinion for democratisation of police in the Indian states. You will be required to acquaint yourself with the campaign and then plan and execute the activities for public/police consultations, surveys and interviews of police officers, victims of police apathy and corruption and community leaders. You will be part of the team to address bar associations, political leaders, community leaders on the role of police in democracies. In addition to your own duties of the Campaign Assistant for police reforms campaign you will also be participating in all the organisational activities that may also include fundraising.
Project Assistant-Unsung Heroes- will be part of the core team assisting the Director in execution of the campaign and activities that are dedicated to widows and children of Police martyrs. You will be required to acquaint yourself with the campaign and take follow up action on the issues already identified during interactions with widows and children. You will also assist in conducting interviews of widows and children and identify candidates for annual adventure and leadership camp. You will also work out resource mobilization plan and execute it with Team Nishan for the annual camp. In addition to your own duties of the Project Assistant for Unsung Heroes campaign you will also be participating in all the organisational activities that may also include fundraising.
Campaign Photographer- If photography and videography is your hobby, It will be an opportunity to depict the pain, sorrows and sufferings of victims of corruption and police atrocities and also the opportunity to catch the electrifying enthusiasm of the mankind that fights against injustice with never say die spirit. Whether it is victim’s interview or the interview of a top political leader or top cop, your coverage is equally essential everywhere.
Your videography and photography will be used for website and banners and press briefings to spread the cause.
All above opportunities provide chance to travel and interact with wide variety of people in this diverse country with complete cultural immersion in India's day today life with a purpose.
Internship program goals are:
1. To utilize the intern’s talents, skills, and service to advance the core mission of UPHOLDING RIGHTS & JUSTICE.
2. To equip the intern with training to intervene on behalf of victims of corruption & human rights violations/abuse of power, express solidarity with their cause and strategize the efforts for legal consequences against the perpetrators with punitive action against them.
3. To provide the intern with training and experience to advance their own careers as an agent of change for the less fortunate, propagating the cause of human dignity and human rights for a peaceful and prosperous society.
4. To help the intern become an ambassador of goodwill, who will share the Nishan story and the message of goodwill and international cooperation.
The position is unpaid but the intern will be provided with subsidised accommodation and food by the organisation. In country travel expenses during the project work will be born by the organisation. Detailed administrative instructions will be provided on short listing.
